In HypnoBirthing we talk about the power of words and how they impact our minds, our bodies, and our choices. The one word that truly disturbs me in the birthing world is the world "deliver". We hear it used in the entire birthing spectrum.
From Dictionary.com: de·liv·erdəˈlivər/verb
1.bring and hand over (a letter, parcel, or ordered goods) to the proper recipient or address."the products should be delivered on time"synonyms:bring, take, convey, carry, transport, courier
Are you handing over your power to another person to bring forth your baby to this world? Think about things being delivered; mail, milk, pizza, and packages. These things are being brought TO you.
Stop and think about this - Who is doing the delivering vs. who is doing the birthing? In HypnoBirthing we want pregnant people to claim their personal power. YOU are the consumer. YOU are the person bringing this baby forth. The power resides in YOU! So we birth our babies.
From Dictionary.com birth [burth] /noun
1. an act or instance of being born:the day of his birth.
2. the act or process of bearing or bringing forth offspring; childbirth; parturition: a difficult birth.
When we birth our babies we are claiming our power and acting with our power instead of someone doing something to us (delivering). Think about the subtle shift that this change in vocabulary can have in your perception of labor & birth. When we take time to reclaim our power it can helps us to make changes so that are in line with our needs, our desires, and vision. These subtle changes really can help build a positive bubble that surrounds us through our pregnancy and birth.
It is my hope that families that take my HypnoBirthing classes understand that subtle changes feed more serious decisions through pregnancy and birth allowing us to make great choices which result in gentle and calm birth experiences.
